From screens to the river: The Tagliamento team met in person

In March, our Students For Rivers Camp Tagliamento team gathered in the beautiful historic town of Venzone for a strategy and scouting weekend. We kicked things off with a short hike to explore the river followed by a cosy dinner at a local restaurant where we shared our hopes for the upcoming camp and got to know each other a little better.

Over the next two days we met with local partners, visited a few potential campsites in Pinzano and some of us went swimming in the cold river pools. Talking to the people who have been working around and advocating for the Tagliamento for years and decades really gave us a sense of purpose and history and it made it clear that we are stepping into a long and passionate legacy of guardianship.

We drove up a very misty and very steep road to catch a bird’s-eye view of the Tagliamento valley and even as the weather was getting worse, it was clear that this landscape is something special.

Looking back, two things became crystal clear: I am incredibly lucky to be part of such an amazing team, and every ounce of effort we put in is worth it if it means keeping this majestic river and its surrounding landscape wild and free.

Now, as experienced visitors, we can’t wait to welcome the participants and seeing what all our collective efforts are able to achieve.
