Having a look behind the organisation of the SRC Samaná

The team behind SRC Samaná comes from France, the Netherlands, Peru, and Colombia. We are united by a simple, deeply personal belief: rivers like the Samaná are not just resources, instead they are living systems worth experiencing and defending. By bringing together kayaking, science, law, and art, we want to show that the Samaná River is worth far more in its natural state than it ever could be as a hydropower site.

Right now, we are busy selecting participants and raising funds for student scholarships. It’s incredibly important to us that local students can join this field experience without financial barriers. We want those closest to the river to be the ones exploring it and shaping its future. From hosting a fundraising events in Colombia to seeking international grants, our efforts are well underway. You can stand with us and support our mission directly through our WhyDonate Crowdfunding campaign (LINK).

Momentum is already building. The team recently gathered during Samaná Fest in March and continues to work steadily toward delivering a meaningful camp and long-term impact.

The Samaná remains the last free-flowing river in Antioquia, a region that has already sacrificed much of its natural rivers for energy production. The SRC Samaná team believes that the time has come to explore alternative energy solutions and protect what little remains of these vital river basins. Ultimately its about nature & people, and their right to experience healthy rivers. We want to ensure future generations inherit living rivers they can run wild in, not just stories of what once existed.
